January 2015 Class Notes

WELCOME
Another new year is rolling by fast. This is the year of our 65th  Reunion come May. We have a good group coming up with lots of family and friends. Win Skelton, with a lot of help from the other Board members, has done a wonderful job of organizing all the events.

NEWS FROM THE FOX’S LAIR
In September Jane took a 14 day cruise from Barcelona to Athens with her sister Pat. The “primary goal” was to visit Albania, Itea, and Katakalo. On her return it was off to a baby shower in CO. She now has 10 great grands.

SPEAKING OF GREAT GRANDS
Great grandchildren are becoming much more frequent, but I did get a lovely picture of four generations of Streits. Mighty cute baby!

CELEBRATING A NINETIETH BIRTHDAY
Joy Viskochil
had a  90th birthday party at the Virginia Beach home of her son., Several classmates helped her celebrate. The picture shows Wendy Phillips with L-to-R Tillie Smithers, Joy,  and Lou Lunn.

AND THANKSGIVING
Out in sunny CA Spike & Lynn Wood were at their country club for the holiday dinner and sent along this picture. Lynn is a “classic case” of small town girl takes a bus to Hollywood and makes good. Now devotes a lot of time to assisting handicapped children.

AND VETERAN’S DAY
Tom Fife,
as he has done for 20 years, spent the day with men from his Viet Nam unit, first at the 1st Infantry Division memorial in DC and then later swapping war stories.

AND THE YOUNG AT HEART
Despite old knees Lou Prentiss was out on the slopes in December. He claims to be the oldest one there. From the picture he certainly seems to be keeping up with the younger ones. I just wish I could do more than a snow plow.

OUR AIRPORT CHAPLAIN
If any of you fly into Washington National Airport, look for Al Romaneski. He is a volunteer chaplain there many days each week. He frequently welcomes the Honor Flights of WWII veterans coming to see the memorial. He also attended recently a National Capital Region Military Summit, which is working to increase outreach to Military personnel and families. A major part is working with the group of wounded warriors here in the DC area.
